How Uncommon Cents Investing grew organic traffic 1,450% in under a year
Uncommon Cents Investing, a fee-only advisory team in Janesville, Wisconsin, had already published 92 quality articles and had 156 monthly organic visitors to show for it. Instead of writing more, we rewrote six of the articles they already had. Within four months the firm passed 1,000 monthly organic visitors; within a year, nearly 2,500, a 1,450% increase, alongside meaningful growth in client inquiries and scheduled consultations.

Where the firm was
Uncommon Cents Investing had done the hard part. Three decades of experience serving clients in Janesville and Rock County, and 92 quality articles already published when we began working together in November 2023.
- 156 organic visitors a month despite that library of content
- 341 keywords ranking in the top 100, most of them too deep to generate clicks
- Roughly 500 monthly search impressions
This is a more common situation than advisors realize: the content exists and it's good, but nothing is organized around how people actually search. The asset was already paid for. It just wasn't working.
What we actually did
Look for what's already almost ranking
We started by mining the existing content for quick wins, articles already ranking, or nearly ranking, for multiple keywords. Six stood out as worth rewriting.
Rewrite before writing
The first rewritten article republished in January 2024. Those six pieces alone carried the site to its first milestone: 1,000 organic visitors a month by April 2024.
Then add new content, steadily
With momentum established, we moved to two new original articles per month. After a short pause, traffic kept climbing to nearly 2,500 monthly visitors.
Keep the foundation in place
None of the content results would have held without the foundational technical and on-page SEO work included in every engagement.
What changed, and by how much
Redrawn from the Google Analytics figures in the published case study, six rewrites reached the first 1,000; new content did the rest.
Rankings first: 341 keywords to 1,137
Keywords ranking in Google's top 100 more than tripled between November 2023 and October 2024, with movement visible across every position band, from pages 6–10 up into the top three.
Then impressions: 500 to over 3,000 a month
Better rankings produced more search appearances, climbing from about 500 monthly impressions in late 2023 to more than 3,000 by December 2024.
Then traffic: 156 to 2,418 visitors
Organic traffic increased nearly 15× over the same period, the third stage in a sequence that always runs in the same order.
And the side effects: backlinks and authority
Consistently publishing good content creates linkable assets. Referring domains, the number of distinct sites linking to Uncommon Cents, grew alongside the content library, compounding the site's authority.
Readiness for AI search
AI search engines still lean on the same relevance and authority signals as traditional search, which makes these improvements valuable across every platform a prospect might use.
“His deep understanding of SEO, particularly within the financial services sector, has significantly enhanced our online visibility… leading to a notable increase in client inquiries and scheduled consultations.”
What this means for your firm
- 01Results arrive in a fixed order: rankings, then impressions, then traffic, then leads. Judging month three by lead count measures the wrong stage.
- 02If you already have a content library, the fastest gains usually come from fixing it, not adding to it.
- 03Publishing cadence sets the pace. Twice a month beats once; four times beats twice.
Answers, in plain English
Are results like this typical?
Not universal, but not surprising for a site with an existing library of quality content and a team committed to best practices. Individual results vary with your starting point, publishing velocity, how narrow your niche is, and how competitive your market is.
Why rewrite instead of publishing new articles?
Because articles that already rank on page three or four have proven they can rank. Improving them is faster and cheaper than earning a new page's authority from zero. New content came second, once the quick wins had built momentum.
How long before I should expect substantial results?
Plan on 6 to 24 months, depending on those four variables. Uncommon Cents moved faster than average because 92 articles of groundwork already existed.
What matters most for success?
Commitment and patience. Search rankings in financial services are genuinely competitive, you can't pick and choose which best practices to implement. And we still see firms leave right as the signals turn positive.
