How Colorado Capital Management added $15–20M in AUM through organic search
Colorado Capital Management is a Boulder-based fee-only RIA and Certified B Corporation. When the engagement began, the firm drew about 230 organic sessions a month and had no content strategy tied to search intent. Over the following three and a half years, the website produced 35 inbound leads in a single twelve-month stretch, more than ten of which became clients, averaging $1.5M in assets each.

Where the firm was
CCM has helped families align wealth with purpose since 2000, stewardship, fiduciary guidance, and values-based investing for mid-to-late-career professionals and early retirees navigating retirement, inheritance, or a business sale. Their digital presence said almost none of that.
- Modest and inconsistent organic traffic, around 230 sessions a month
- No content strategy tied to SEO or search intent
- Low local visibility and almost no map pack presence
- An irregular publishing cadence, with months of nothing
The gap wasn't quality of thinking. It was discoverability. A firm with a genuinely differentiated philosophy was invisible to the people looking for exactly that.
What we actually did
Audit first, then build structure
A full website audit followed by on-page work: metadata, headings, internal linking, and schema. We identified missing service pages and deepened existing ones so the site covered its own subject matter properly.
Cluster keywords around the ideal client
Rather than chase generic advisor terms, we built keyword clusters around CCM's Ideal Client Profile and core service themes, the people they actually wanted, searching the way those people actually search.
Write cornerstone content on high-intent topics
Transition planning, retirement income, impact investing, and legacy, the subjects their best clients research before they ever call an advisor.
Earn local trust signals
Google Business Profile optimization, local citations, and NAP consistency. Early work got CCM into the top 10 locally, but they stayed just outside the map pack until a client review program launched in October 2022. That's when they broke into the top 3.
Split the work along the seam of expertise
CCM owned voice, tone, and compliance. We owned structure, SEO guidance, and performance tracking. Some articles we drafted for their edits; others we delivered as detailed content briefs so their team could write in-house without losing search intent.
Review quarterly, adjust quarterly
A shared content calendar and quarterly performance reviews kept keyword targeting and internal linking aligned with what was actually working.
What changed, and by how much
Redrawn from the Google Analytics figures in the published case study, slow start, then compounding as publishing cadence improved.
Jan 2025
Nov 2025
Stylized rendering of the local grid results reported in the case study: strong southeast, weak downtown in January 2025, top-3 across nearly every grid point citywide by November 2025.
$15–20M in new AUM from the website
35 inbound leads in the last twelve months of the engagement. More than 10 converted to clients, at an average of roughly $1.5M in assets each.
More than 4× the organic traffic
230 monthly sessions in April 2022, 379 by April 2024, and 976 by October 2025, the curve steepening as content volume increased.
1.14 million impressions and 7,670 clicks
Between August 2024 and October 2025. Average keyword position improved from the 40s into the low 30s across the full keyword set.
Zero reviews to 51
From no Google reviews in October 2022 to 51 by the end of October 2025, the single change most closely correlated with breaking into the map pack.

What this means for your firm
- 01Real SEO results took 18 to 24 months to accelerate. The firms that quit at month twelve never see the curve.
- 02Local trust signals like reviews and a maintained Google Business Profile decide map visibility in competitive advisor markets.
- 03Clarity converts. Values-based planning, made discoverable, attracts prospects who already agree with you.
Results took 18–24 months to accelerate. The firm's share of voice in AI answers now sits at 53%, ahead of larger regional competitors.
Answers, in plain English
Why did this take three and a half years?
It didn't take that long to work. It took that long to compound. Traffic improved steadily from year one, but the breakout year for leads and AUM came after roughly 18 months of consistent publishing, and the strongest gains tracked the period when cadence improved.
How much content did this actually require?
About 30 pieces over 42 months, some new and some rewritten, less than one a month on average. But 18 of those 30 landed in a 22-month stretch during 2024 and 2025, and that concentration is where the traffic, lead, and ranking gains cluster. Consistency mattered more than volume.
Did the September 2025 Google reporting change affect these numbers?
It affected the impression counts, not the rankings. Google stopped counting up to 100 search results per query, which caused an apparent dip in impressions. CCM's actual keyword rankings continued improving through the same period.
Was this local SEO or content marketing?
Both, deliberately. Local work won the map pack in Boulder; content won the high-intent searches from people researching transitions, retirement income, and impact investing. The AUM came disproportionately from the second group.
